Las Vegas Saint Patrick's Day
Saint Patrick is a well know Irish saint who lived from circa 385 to 461. His birth
name was Maewyn Succat and he was born in Great Britian. He was captured by Irish raiders and turn into a slave at age 16 but
escaped and made his way back to England. He had a dream in which he return to Ireland to spread the word of Christianity and
he choose to join the priesthood. He returned to Ireland and help convert the Irish from Paganism to Christianity which eventually
led to him being declared a saint.
Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17th. In Irish, it is called Lá
’le Pádraig or Lá Fhéile Pádraig. Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig is the Gaelic phrase wishing you a blessing on Saint Patrick's
Day. It is a national holiday in Ireland. In Northern Ireland, it is a bank holiday. In the Republic of
Ireland, this is public holiday. In the United States and many other country, it is celebrated as an informal holiday.
St Paddy's day as it is also known occurs during the lenten season and if it conflicts with holy week is moved to another day. Usually,
if it occurs on a Friday, the Catholic tradition of not eating meat during the lenten season can be suspended by the local bishop
which is usually done. The celebration of Saint Paddy's Day in the United States started with the first parade in Boston in
1737. The first Saint Patrick's Day parade in New York City was in 1762.
Many people traditionally wear green on this holiday.
The shamrock is also associated with day. In fact, "Wearing of the Green" means to wear a shamrock.
In Las Vegas like many
places, the celebration of this day has become an annual event with parades and Irish music. Additionally, Irish pubs and other
restaurants served Irish food such as corned beef and cabbage.
The
Southern Nevada Sons of Erin will first begin
the celebration with the Annual St. Patrick Day dinner dance on March 5th. The 44th Sons of Erin annual
Saint Patricks
Day Parade and Festival will be from March 11 through the 14th will include a carnival and kiddie land on all 4 days. From March
12 through the 14th, there will be free concerts & entertainment and Irish Pub & Irish Water Street Mall. On Saturday
March 13th, the
St. Patricks Day Parade will start at 10am and run to noon and travel down Water Street. The festival and parade will
be held Water Street District, Henderson, NV.
Snaps which is located at Eastside Cannery Hotel and Casino, 5255 Boulder Hwy, Las Vegas,
NV 89122 will have a special
St Patrick's Day menu. The
menu includes a choice of Potato and fresh leek soup or Traditional
Irish salad; a choice of corned beef brisk or Irish stew; and Irish Cream cheesecake.
Las Vegas is home to many Irish
Pubs which will have special menus and special drinks for that day.

NV 89052. The St Patrick's Day events includes events before and on Saint Paddy's day. On Saturday March
6th starting at noon, they will celebrate Saint Baldrick's Day which is a children cancer charity and people shave their hair to help
out. On Monday March 15th, they will have a special Spy on Las Vegas and will be giving away free Irish car bombs from 7pm to
10pm. Irish car bombs is a drink composed of Irish whiskey & Baileys shots dropped in to Guinness. On Tuesday March
16th will be Saint Practice Day which includes at 12:45pm showing of the Championship League matches and from 10pm to closing;
2 for 1 Irish Car Bombs. Finally, on March 17th Saint Patrick's Day celebration start at 8am with eggs and Guinness. If
you are before 2pm, admission is free. The bands schedule to appear include Finnigan's Wake, The Birdies, The Cronies and
The Junk. They will be offering both Irish beer and whisky. The made from scratch Irish food includes: Corned beef
and cabbage, Irish Boxty, and Fish & Chips.
