Mother's Day is celebrated mainly worldwide either in March, April, or May. Mother Day celebration orginally came from ancient rituals such as Greek cult holiday of Cybele which was dedicated to a Mountains Goddess. This day honors mothers and motherhood. Mother's Day in the United States was first called for in the "Mother's Day Proclamation" by Julia Ward Howe in 1870; it was a pacifist reaction to the American Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War. In 1912, Anna Jarvis coined the phrases "second Sunday in May" and "Mother's Day", and also created the Mother's Day International Association. U.S. President Woodrow Wilson made it official holiday in the U.S., through the U.S. Congress on house bills. Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May and thus 2012 will be celebrated on May 13th. It is one of the largest day for sales of candy, flowers, greeting cards, perfume, and jewelry. It also the one day which the most phone calls occur.
As in many places, Mother's Day dinner will be eaten out in Las Vegas.
